The workshop

We're Melanie and Sebastian, and we make every piece ourselves.

LaserArt Germany is a small workshop for personalized gifts made from wood and acrylic. Design, engraving, quality control and shipping all happen in our own workshop in Dornstetten in the Black Forest.

How LaserArt Germany began

LaserArt Germany grew out of handcraft, not a business plan. In 2022, Melanie built the first pieces herself and shared them on Instagram. The feedback was clear: what people wanted wasn't the next decor item, but something made for one specific person and one specific moment.

In November 2024, our first own laser arrived, an xTool S1. That turned experimenting into real production: consistent edges, clean engraving depth, repeatable results. In January 2025 we started selling on Etsy, and the first order came in just a few days later. Over the course of the year, a second laser system followed, along with new material suppliers, better packaging, and this own online shop.

What hasn't changed: every order passes through our hands. We see every engraving before it leaves the house. That's why we can give you a real answer for special requests, and why we'd rather ask once when something is unclear than engrave the wrong thing.

How a piece is made

Every product is only made after you order it. The process is the same for every item, whether it's a nursery name sign or a personalized money gift.

First, we check your details

Names, date, spelling, font. If something is unclear or contradictory, we get in touch before the machine runs. That costs a few hours and prevents a re-make.

Then we prepare the file

Every personalization is set individually. Letter spacing, line breaks, and font size are adjusted for the length of the name, so the engraving sits centered and doesn't look cramped.

Then it's cut and engraved

Material, power, and speed are set differently depending on the material. Birch plywood needs different settings than acrylic, and slate different again. After lasering, pieces are deburred and cleaned by hand, and assembled where needed.

Finally, we inspect and pack

Before shipping, we check the engraving, dimensions, and surface. Packaging is break-proof, and every shipment gets a tracking number. For how long that all takes in total and what shipping to your country costs, see our shipping and delivery times page.

What we work with

Our main material is FSC-certified birch plywood. Alongside that we use acrylic for clean, modern shapes, slate for heavier, understated pieces, cork, olive wood, and vegan leather. Which material belongs to which product is listed in each product description.

The choice of material shapes the effect. For weddings we work a lot with acrylic, because place cards and table numbers look light and precise in it. For family signs and christening gifts we lean toward wood, because it feels warm and ages well.

What LaserArt is — and isn't

We're a production workshop, not a retailer. That's the key difference to many shops with a similar range.

  • We don't buy finished products and simply add text to them.
  • We don't work with print-on-demand providers.
  • We don't have anything manufactured abroad.
  • We don't stock personalized items in advance.
  • We don't sell mass-produced goods without personalization.

What we do instead: we design, cut, engrave, inspect, and pack everything ourselves. You can read what that looks like when the package is opened in our customer reviews.

Häufige Fragen

What we get asked most often.

Where are the products made?

In our own workshop in Dornstetten in the Black Forest. Cutting, engraving, assembly, quality control and packaging all happen in one place. We don't outsource any of these steps.

Who's behind LaserArt Germany?

Melanie and Sebastian. The owner is Melanie Zaun, and the company is based at Wacholderweg 3, 72280 Dornstetten. There's no team behind the scenes: whoever writes to you has held your product in their hands.

Do you make items to stock, or only to order?

Only to order. We don't keep personalized products in stock and don't work with print-on-demand partners. Production usually takes one to three business days, after which your order ships with tracking. Details are on the shipping page.

Which materials do you work with?

Mainly FSC-certified birch plywood, plus acrylic, slate, cork, olive wood and faux leather. The material for each product is always listed in its own product description, for example with our olive wood boards.

Can I order from you outside the shop too?

Yes. Besides this shop, we've also been selling on Etsy since January 2025. It's the same workshop and the same production, just a different way to order. Some of the reviews on our reviews page come from these Etsy orders.

What happens if my personalization details are unclear?

We ask before we engrave. A misspelled name can't be fixed once it's in wood, so we'd rather send a quick question than have to remake the piece. The fastest way is WhatsApp, ideally with a photo or screenshot.

Where do you ship to?

To Germany, the EU, European countries outside the EU such as Switzerland, Norway and the United Kingdom, as well as North America, Australia and New Zealand. Shipping of standard products within Germany is free.
